Angel Food Cake for an Angel's Birthday

No hairstyle today, but a great recipe instead.

We spent the day celebrating my angel boy's birthday.
Your life was too short, little one.
We love you like crazy and miss you, pal.

For those of you who never met him, I'll share
his Angel food cake with you and yours:

12 eggs room temperature
1 1/2 C powdered sugar
1 C flour
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 C sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsp salt

*Separate eggs and use only the whites (1 1/2 C worth) and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes
*Add cream of tartar to eggs and beat on medium until foamy
*Add sugar a little at a time, add vanilla, almond extract, and salt
*Beat until a meringue is stiff and glossy
*Mix dry ingredients and add them 1/4 C at a time to the meringue and fold it in with a rubber spatula
*Spoon into an ungreased angel food cake pan
*Use a knife to cut through the batter and break any air pockets
*Bake 30-35 minutes or until cracks in cake feel dry at 375 degrees

  1. Bless your sweet family. *Hugs*

  2. Love it. It's the perfect birthday cake.

  3. It is just beautiful how you celebrate this little one's short earthly life. I have a brother who died before he was born, and rarely does a day go by when I don't think of who or what he might've been. Not sad, mind you, just...thoughtful. Our family planted a tree in his honor, that blooms around the time he was sent to us. It's a sweet, beautiful reminder of the short life that influenced us so much, even though we never saw more than a sonogram photo of him.

This site is a great source of inspiration to me as the oldest of 5 girls, all of whom have hair at least to our shoulders! My one sister, Ellie (age 6) likes me to do "princess" hair...and I thought "really, how many different styles could there be?". That's where your site comes in- and our little princess LOVES it! Thank you, Kaitlin

    1. Kaitlin,
Thanks for your sweet comments; it made me smile. I'm sorry about your brother. I wish both of us had ours here so we could give them a big hug. Thanks for reading our blog and loving it. It makes doing it worthwhile.
      Thanks, Bella
